About newspaper & magazines scrap

Newspaper is a high-quality recycling fibre as long as it stays dry. Damp paper gains weight but is refused or heavily discounted at the mill, so storing bundles off the floor and away from bathrooms and terraces genuinely protects your value.

Magazines and glossy periodicals are a slightly different fibre because of the clay coating, and are usually graded just below plain newsprint. Both are welcome in the same collection; we weigh them separately when the quantity justifies it.

For apartments and offices this works best as a scheduled collection — monthly or quarterly — where we collect from every floor in one visit. Residents' associations often arrange this as a block collection and split the settlement.

We sort and weigh each grade separately in front of you rather than averaging a mixed load down to its lowest rate.

What decides the rate

Rates move with the market, so we do not publish fixed numbers. These are the factors we assess when quoting newspaper & magazines scrap.

Dryness

Damp paper is discounted or refused; dry storage is the single biggest factor.

Bundling

Tied bundles handle faster than loose paper and are easier to weigh accurately.

Contamination

Plastic covers, food residue and tape lower the grade.

Quantity

Apartment or office-scale volumes support a better rate than a few kilograms.

Get the better grade

  1. Store bundles indoors and off the floor — never on an open terrace.
  2. Tie with string rather than sealing in plastic bags.
  3. Pull out plastic covers, spiral bindings and heavy tape.
  4. For apartments, collect floor by floor and book one collection for the block.
