About lead-acid batteries scrap

Batteries are bought by weight, with the electrolyte intact. Draining acid before sale is both dangerous and pointless: it removes weight you would have been paid for and creates a disposal problem you now own. Hand them over sealed and upright, exactly as they came out.

Under India's battery waste rules, used lead-acid batteries must move through authorised collection and recycling channels. Informal breaking and backyard smelting is the single biggest source of lead poisoning in the trade, and we will not participate in it. Every battery we buy leaves whole and goes to a registered recycler.

Inverter, UPS and industrial traction batteries are the same chemistry at larger sizes and are collected the same way. Lithium-ion packs from vehicles, laptops and power tools are a different chemistry with different rules — declare them separately when booking, especially if any cell is swollen or damaged.

We sort and weigh each grade separately in front of you rather than averaging a mixed load down to its lowest rate.

What decides the rate

Rates move with the market, so we do not publish fixed numbers. These are the factors we assess when quoting lead-acid batteries scrap.

Weight with electrolyte

Batteries are bought whole and intact; draining acid reduces what you are paid.

Battery type

Automotive, inverter and industrial types differ in lead content per kilogram.

Case condition

Cracked and leaking cases need special handling and are quoted accordingly.

Quantity

Battery banks and bulk lots are quoted as a consignment.

Get the better grade

  1. Never open, drain or break a battery — it is unsafe and against the rules.
  2. Keep batteries upright and away from children and living areas.
  3. Transport in a tray or crate to contain any seepage from an older case.
  4. Declare lithium packs and any swollen cells before the vehicle is sent.

Where it ends up

Lead is recovered and refined for new batteries, and the polypropylene cases are re-granulated.

Should I drain the acid first?
No. Batteries are bought whole with the electrolyte in place. Draining acid is dangerous and reduces the weight you are paid for.
Where do the batteries actually go?
To recyclers authorised under India's battery waste rules. We do not sell to informal breakers, and we can provide the handover trail for bulk sellers.
Do you take lithium-ion batteries?
Yes, with prior notice. Lithium chemistry needs different handling, and swollen or damaged packs must be declared at booking.
