About rubber & tyres scrap

Used tyres are a genuine environmental problem — they trap water, breed mosquitoes and burn badly — which is why disposal is regulated and why open burning is an offence. Depending on condition and volume, a tyre lot may earn a small amount, break even, or carry a disposal charge. We tell you which before collecting rather than after.

Industrial rubber is often more useful: conveyor belting, rubber sheet, moulding waste and gaskets from manufacturing can be granulated into crumb rubber for flooring, mats and road surfacing. Clean, single-type rubber waste from a factory is worth more than a mixed pile of worn tyres.

Steel-belted truck tyres contain recoverable steel wire, which is separated during processing. That is handled by the recycler, not on your site.

Grades and sub-types

We sort and weigh each grade separately in front of you rather than averaging a mixed load down to its lowest rate.

What decides the rate

Rates move with the market, so we do not publish fixed numbers. These are the factors we assess when quoting rubber & tyres scrap.

Rubber type

Clean industrial rubber is worth more than mixed worn tyres.

Volume

Only truckload quantities move economically.

Steel content

Steel-belted tyres recover wire but cost more to process.

Whether a lot goes to crumb rubber or pyrolysis affects what it is worth.

Get the better grade

  1. Stack tyres flat and keep them dry and out of standing water.
  2. Separate clean factory rubber waste from worn tyres.
  3. Accumulate a full load before booking — small lots rarely move economically.
  4. Never burn rubber; it is an offence and a serious health hazard.

Where it ends up

Granulated into crumb rubber for flooring, mats and road surfacing, or processed at authorised pyrolysis units.
